The past few weeks have been quite interesting for sports fans.  There has been some headway with the NFL Lockout though it still stays in place; now that the NBA season is over, people are starting to discuss the new collective bargaining agreement between the NBA owners and players so who knows if there will be a lockout there and in college athletics we keep hearing the same things, players who are taking advantage of their fame and not taking responsibility for their actions.   Also yesterday we had new star emerge in the golf world, when Rory McIlroy won the US Open and crushed the competition with record breaking play.  He is now being hailed as the new Tiger Woods, if not being a player who is better then Tiger Woods was at that age.  With Rory winning he brings a fresh young face to the golf world that needs a new hero and someone to take the place of the hot young stud.  Though let us hope that Rory only follows in the success of Tiger and not become a lying, cheating husband like Tiger did.

In the past couple of weeks the NFLPA and the NFL owners have had some good progress in their talks to end the lockout.  It seems that they are actually trying to now create a deal that both sides might actually be able to sign and that would end this lockout and bring back football this season.  It seems like both sides are finally being able to make some concessions and that they want a full season in 2011 and not an 8 game season which people are starting to think is what is going to happen.  From reports that I have read on ESPN it looks like there are a few of the owners who are not to pleased with some the concessions that the owners who have been part of the talks are proposing but in all honesty if the reason is being the owners involved in the talks are discussing giving the players a bigger share of the revenue what is wrong with that. The players are the ones who are getting the owners their money, fans don't go to games to watch the owners they go to watch the players and they players are out their playing and potentially getting injured for the fans.  So I hope that they will soon resolve everything and that we will have an NBA season this year.

What an interesting few weeks for the NBA, the Mavericks win the Championship, everyone bashes Lebron and debate what will happen to him in the offseason, Shaq retires to then get embroiled in a legal battle stemming from a 2008 beating of a music executive, the NBA is getting ready for the draft, Ricky Rubio decides to finally come to the NBA and play for the Timberwolves and there is a chance of a lockout starting July 1st if no new agreement can be made.  This right here could be its own post and probably will be one in the next couple of days but I will make a quick summery here, Rubio is finally coming after being drafted in 2009 but at that time his buyout from his Spanish team was 6 million and 5.5 million was going to come out of his pocket, which he did not want to pay. Now two years later the buyout is 1.4 million and the Wolves can pay 500,000 of it which means Ricky is only going to be paying .9 Million of it which is much better then before.  So I can understand the wait.  The draft is next weekend and still the Cavs have yet to say who they are choosing with the number one pick which is creating some problems for the team with the Number 2 pick, the Timberwolves because are they going to take Irving or Williams,  it all depends on who the Cav's take.  Be on the lookout for an NBA offseason post in the next couple of days where I will discuss everything NBA in much more detail.

Now to the NCAA, really Pryor, really, you don't think that you have to still cooperate with the NCAA infractions committee because you have decided to leave school early to avoid anymore fallout out of the scandal that you caused.  In your 90 second interview you apologize to your former coach, someone who has now taken the fall for you and someone whom you say you respect and is like a second father to you.  For his sake please cooperate and man up take responsibility.  I am sick and tired of hearing about college athletes who do not take any responsibility for what has happened when they mess up.  Look at the former Washington player who has been arrested for being a part of a prostitution ring, did he really think he wasn't going to get caught.  I mean seriously, most people would die to be in your positions.  We need more players like Marquette's Butler, who has overcome tremendous odds to be a potential draft pick this year.  Is he out there partying it up and acting like he owns everything, no he is solely focused on playing the game and showing the NBA what he can do.  He barely has time for interviews due to the fact that he still has to focus on the workouts.  That is who we need more of not players who don't take responsibility for their actions but players who shine on and off the court, and who chose schools not only for athletics but for academics as well.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
