Washington Capitals: The End of the Season

Yesterday the Capitals lost in overtime in Game 7 to the New York Rangers, it has been the case that in the past three playoff appearances it has been the Rangers that have eliminated the Caps; but this may honestly be the series that is going to hurt for the longest time.  The Caps were a minute and a half from winning in Game 5, a minute and a half from making it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately the Rangers won in overtime.  Watching this series has made me realize how invested I have become in the Washington Capitals and how they have truly become my hockey team and how I have actually become a hockey fan.

The Caps played really well this season, they made it to the playoffs and in all honesty that truly all has to be put at the feet of Braden Holtby, he has been phenomenal as a goalie.  Watching him blossom as a truly elite goalie has been nothing short of sensational, I think for the past few years many people have given up on him and have wanted to relegate him to the side but he wouldn't let you.  He stood up and took charge of the net for the Caps and never looked back.  He has mostly bounced back from a bad game to have a sensational game the next day.  He shows you what it takes to be an elite goalie.

Now I may have said in the previous paragraph that Holtby deserves all of the praise and truly he does but we couldn't have won without Ovechkin, Kusnetsov, Backstrom and many of our other players.  These guys have done what they always do and score goals.  Kusnetsov came out of no where this year to help the Caps when they have needed it the most, he hasn't shied away from the crunch time goals and has done what he could to help the Caps when they need it.

That's all for hockey this season; stay tuned for my next post about the Warriors and the NBA Playoffs.  I hope you all enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
