Big Announcements in Sports: Peyton Retires and Sharapova Fails Drug Test
What a week this has been in the Sports World, first Peyton Manning announces his retirement and the same day Maria Sharapova announces that she failed a drug test during the Australian Open.
Let us start with Peyton Manning, he retired on top not many athletes get to do that and while this may not have been his best season and not even in his top 10 seasons he did finish with a Super Bowl ring and is the only quarterback to ever win with two different team. I have to say that I truly have admired Peyton and believe he is one of the greats in the sport. He has always seemed so in tune with that goes on the field and it has been a pleasure to watch him the past few years as I have gotten more and more into football. I believe that he will do great things off of the field and I hope that he becomes a broadcaster for a few years and then once the Chip Kelly game goes bust he decides to become a coach and coach the 49ers since he is one of the best minds in the NFL. It always seemed like not only was he a quarterback but he was also one of the coaches. He bridged that gap and it will make him one of the best coaches in the league when he decides to become a coach, though I think he should be a broadcaster for a few years to take a small break from the daily grind of football.
Now in not so great news unfortunately Maria Sharapova announced in a press conference that she had failed a drug test at the Australian Open for a drug that she had been taking for 10 years and was banned this past January. I do have to give her credit because she announced it before the media could get to it and the media had no clue that her press conference was about that. Everyone believed it was either a retirement announcement or that she was not going to participate in the next event. I do hope that the Tennis Federation will be somewhat lenient on her as it is her first offense and she came out and told everyone herself and didn't try to hide it. She also is one of those athletes that has always seemed to be above reproach and I hope her reputation won't take to big of a hit.
I hope you enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
