College Coaches need to take Responsibility for their actions

This past week I read on ESPN that Bruce Pearl thinks that he will be coaching again in the near future no matter what the NCAA says about him.  I feel like he is being very nonchalant about what is going on with his future and the NCAA investigation into him and the Tennessee program when he was the head coach.  I think that Pearl should have waited for the end of the investigation before he made an comments as to what his future might bring because the NCAA could impose sanctions on him as a coach and any school that hires him could face dire consequences by having him as their head coach.  Pearl acted like he is invincible well he isn't, he was fired from a good job and with good reason, he lied to the NCAA infractions committee and committed grave infractions that have lead to his former school now being under the microscope by the NCAA.

Another school that is currently under fire from the NCAA for a different sport is Ohio State.  Here at least once it came out that Jim Tressel had hidden information about violations he stepped up to the plate and took all of the punishment without question.  At first he was only going to be suspended for the first 5 games like his players.  Though then it came out that the infractions were much more serious then what had first been reported and ultimately Tressel lost his job as the head coach of Ohio State.  Not only did he step down but now his last year as Head Coach is gone from the record books and all of those games including the Sugar Bowl victory are stricken.  What I think will annoy Ohio State fans the most is that the 7 year win streak against Michigan is now over because this past season is gone.  So officially Ohio St has only beaten Michigan for 6 years straight.

Ohio State thinks that they have given themselves a sufficiently harsh punishment and that the NCAA infractions committee shouldn't levy any more punishment but I personally think that there needs to strict punishment and that we need to clean up college athletics.  Why is it that the schools are the ones that get the punishment and most time never the Head Coach of the program.  Yes in these two cases I mentioned the head coach did suffer both lost their jobs, but look at the past Jim Carrol jumped ship, Calipari never gets in trouble but he always gets rewarded for his infractions with better jobs and more money.  I want the NCAA to be a haven of clean athletics, corruption should take place in the Pro's not in College.  Yes I know this is a fools dream but dream it I will.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
