UNC ARE YOUR 2017 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Last night redemption happened and UNC became your 2017 National Champions. I honestly cried last night during those last 10 seconds of the game because I remembered how last year went and it seemed that somehow it was going to happen again but then that block by Kennedy Meeks with 7.3 seconds left that led to a Justin Jackson dunk sealed the game. This was the ugliest game I have every seen for a National Championship game; the refs controlled the pace of the game and we all honestly knew that it was going to happen that way. Both teams play a physical game and have big men that drive in the post and play inside the paint. I hoped the refs would allow the teams to play but that didn't really happen and neither team was able to really find a rhythm which showed in the sub 40% shooting for both teams.
This post season run for the Tar Heels was nothing like last years where they kind of ran through the tournament until the very end. This year they had to fight and claw their way to the Championship game after an easy win in the first round. I did think that this team could do it but I also knew that they had a tendency to get ahead early and then fall apart against good teams. The fact that for four straight games from Arkansas until this Championship game, the team would get ahead and then let the other team get back into the game and even take the lead but then they gritted and came back and won every game until they were the last team standing.
I know that people are going to look at this team and think well what about the NCAA Sanctions and the academic scandal that is looming over the entire athletic program. What I say to those people is that this team has nothing to do with that, that was in the past and these guys weren't on the team or even being recruited yet. So please hold your high horse and let these boys enjoy the win and the Championship, it is a once in a life time win for these guys.
I hope you enjoyed this post and will keep following my love affair with sports.
