Giants: New Leaders of the NL West?
Will the Giants become the new leaders of the NL West? At this point it doesn't look like they will at least not with this series. We had to sweep the Padres to gain the lead. Yet last night we only lost by one run and today we kept going and didn't give up to win in the 11th inning. The Giants are looking like a completely different team then they did before the All Star Break. I know I discussed this earlier and said that Buster Posey and Pat Burrell were the reasons for this change. These two amazing hitters do play a major role in our line up and are every pitchers nightmare when they come up because they tend to get hits. Pat Burrell has been upgraded to the clean sweep position in the batting order due to the fact that he has been hitting home runs and making some of the biggest plays for the Giants.
The Giants have made some pretty big moves to make themselves contenders in the NL West and have a legitimate chance of ending the six year play off drought that we have been in. They have just recently acquired Jose Guillen from the Kansas City Royals and he provides the Giants with more hitting power in the line up. The biggest issue is going to be figuring out where he shall be placed in the line up because clearly the Giants are not going to be getting rid of Burrell or Posey any time soon. Also where in the line up will he go he does have a very high RBI number since being with the Royals. I am looking forward to seeing where he will be and following his first game in the San Francisco Giants uniform. Sadly I will not be able to watch the game as I'm currently on the East Coast and Giants games are not usually on tv.
This year was a surprise year in the NL West, usually the Dodgers are the team to beat or the Diamondbacks but this year it has been the Padres. They have dominated the game and the fact that the Giants are only 2.5 games back is actually very amazing for the Giants especially seeing as how horribly they were playing before the All Star Break. The Giants should be very happy that they are currently in the lead for the Wild Card and should work on keeping that lead as I don't really see them truly competing with the strength of the Padres. (This last sentence was possibly one of the hardest that I had to write because I am such a huge Giants fan and I have amazing hometown pride.)
I hope you enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
