NFL Preseason games: Giants v. Jets

I know I promised a complete breakdown of the NFL on this blog and unfortunately that isn't going to happen.  I'm currently teaching myself the nitty gritty aspect of football and trying to get everything down so I can be a better sports enthusiast.  With that being said instead I'm going to be writing recaps of the preseason games as I watch them.  The first being the game last night where the Giants topped the Jets 31-16 in the inaugural game of the new Giants/Jets stadium.  Technically it was a Jets home game and not the Giants but in the second half the Giants played as if it was their stadium.

The first quarter opened up with the Giants getting the first touch.  This play showed that this was a preseason game as the starters were not in regular season form.  The Giants were pushed back 4 yards and then Eli Manning threw an incomplete pass though to be fair the pass was good and Ramses Barden should have caught it.  The Jets gain possession of the ball and promptly Sanchez throws an interception and the Giants catch it for a 59 yard return before being stopped at the 1 yard line.  The Giants make the touchdown.  The Giants had a decent first half they really weren't able to stop the Jets offense, granted they did only allow them to make field goals besides the first touchdown that the Jets had but in all reality the Giants have to work on their defense.  In the second quarter Eli Manning was hit by his own team on a miscommunication over a play.  One of the players believed that Eli was going for a pass fake when in reality no one is clear exactly what was going on.  Eli was taken out of the game with a three inch gash on his forehead that required 12 stitches and his status is now uncertain for Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.

The Jets played a very solid first half going into the half with a 13-10 lead over the Giants.  They ran solid plays and were able to plow through the Giants defense and gain yardage to lead to two different field goal attempts and a touchdown.  Also the Jets defense were able to stop the Giants offense and force Eli to a few incomplete passes.  Yet when the Jets took out their starters in the second half there was a complete collapse, the Jets were held to one field goal and allowed the Giants to take a resounding lead and demolish the Jets.  The Jets need to work on their second string and teach them how to play better because the Jets need to have good back ups if they are trying to become a contender this season.

I hope you enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
