Tebow, Kaepernick and the Hypocracy of the NFL

A couple of days ago my mom and I got into a discussion about Colin Kaepernick, Tim Tebow and the way faith or a strong view point that doesn't follow the norm can cause players to suddenly find themselves without jobs in the NFL. While players who commit crimes and are arrested seem to get second, third and even fourth chances. How is that even fair?

Let's start with Tim Tebow, now I will say this I do have some issues with Tebow but none of them surround his faith and his Christianity. I personally think that he is probably a very decent human being who does live the by tenants of his faith. My issues with him, and my friends know, have everything to do with football. I honestly believe that if he really wanted to make it in the NFL he would have switched positions to a wide receiver or tight end and would have crushed it in the league. But no he wanted to be a quarterback and his skill level just never really translated on the field. Yes his first year in Denver he took them to the playoffs but he had great defense helping him, honestly just look at Peyton's final year in Denver. The defense won him that Superbowl. Yet he was never truly given looks, yeah some teams signed him for the wow factor of Tebow and I truly believe that it is all due to how he is perceived in the media. He is seen as being too Christian and too goody goody two shoes which is not the image the NFL likes to portray.

Now on to Kaepernick, he is being black balled by the league for standing up for his beliefs in a non-violent way. Yes it wasn't how most people would have done it but he did start a conversation that needed to be started. He also put his time, money and career on the line for his belief in the Black Lives Matter Movement and trying to draw attention to how time and time again there seems to be senseless killings of blacks by the police. Now I'm not making this post political in any way, it is about sports after all, yet Kaepernick is now black balled by the league and no one will hire him because he is a "distraction". We all know there are quite a few teams that could do with someone of Kaepernick's talent and yet none of them gave him a look because just like Tebow his views and how he brought attention to them doesn't fit the mold of the NFL.

With all of this you have players like Robby Anderson who just got arrested for resisting arrest with violence and the Jets issued a statement saying we are aware the legal proceedings and will have no further comment at this time. Look at Ray McDonald, he was arrested twice in 2014 for domestic violence and it took him being looked at for a sexual assault case for the 49ers to dismiss him and yet he was still signed by the Bears to their practice squad. That is not it, the Raiders drafted someone who is currently embroiled in a legal case where it is alleged that he raped someone in Ohio. All of these players have gotten second chances, third chances and what about Kaepernick, he isn't getting a second chance because his view doesn't align with what the NFL wants to portray. Well I am sick and tired of seeing athletes getting second chances for assault cases. Now PED's and drugs ok give a player a chance that is more then likely only harming the player and not anyone else. But when a player harms other people, why does that get rewarded and brushed aside?

I know this has been a really long post but it has been on my mind for the last couple of days and I don't know how to fix this issue but it does need to be fixed. I hope you enjoyed this post and will keep following my love affair with sports.
