The NBA: News and Playoffs

This week has already been quite interesting in the world of the NBA.  The second round of playoffs have begun and all 8 teams have played their first games.  Memphis beat Oklahoma, the Heat have a one game lead over the Celtics, Atlanta proved that they can handle Chicago and second series the Lakers have been handed a loss in the first game this time due to Dallas.  Not only have the second round of playoffs commenced but the owners of the Kings have announced that they are staying in Sacramento for one more year at least.  This makes me quite happy for Northern California and the fact that Sacramento has one more year to try and keep the Kings.

The Maloofs have said that the reason they are giving Sacramento one more shot is because the mayor has promised that he will work hard to get a new stadium built for them.  He has been in talks with the State Senate and the city wide council to try and get the money and funding in place to build this stadium.  I think that small market teams need to stay because they provide such a good story for fans.  I do understand a little why the Maloofs did want to move to Anaheim, there was a stadium there ready for their use and it would have been a bigger market for them.  Though one drawback they would have to compete with the Lakers and the Clippers because that is in the same market as those two teams.  With the talent that the Kings currently have, I'm not sure how viable that would be.  I like that the Kings are staying in Northern California as the upper half of California needs to have more then one professional basketball team.

Back to the playoffs, I have to discuss the Celtics vs Heat game.  I was so pissed off that the Celtics lost, and not just the fact that they lost to the Heat but the way they lost.  It seemed like they were playing reservedly and not wanting to push the Heat around.  Then Pierce's ejection capped the horrendous night for the Celtics.  They need to get it together and I'm going to rant like any other fan right now and say that the ref's need to start calling the game fairly because I'm pretty sure that Pierce did not deserve that ejection.  Maybe a foul or a tech but definitely not to be ejected.  Let's hope the Celtics get it together for game 2 and beat the Heat like they have done during the regular season.  Also I do hope that Shaq comes back as there is a need for a big man for the Celtics.  Rondo needs to get his mojo back.

Tonight we shall see if Memphis can get a two game lead on Oklahoma and Durant and if the Celtics can tie up the series with the Heat.  I hope you enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
