NFL Lockout: The Impact and Consequences of One

So now that sadly College Basketball is over, we need to turn our attention to some very pressing news in the realm of sports, the NFL Lockout.  The fact that the collective bargaining agreement expired without a new one in place put fear into the hearts of all fans since this means that there could very well not be an NFL season next year and what would the majority of sports fans do on Sunday's and Monday's without football.  Really I'm not being facetious in any way, the fact that there could potentially be a lock out is the worst case scenario for the NFL and for sports next year.  Sunday's have become known as NFL Sunday and bars are open and do good business because of games and the fans that go to bars to watch their team play.  What would happen to these bars if there was no NFL season, they would lose money and could go out of business.

Not only would bars lose business but we have an entire culture surrounding tailgating and football watching parties, we spend a ton of money to go out and get food and alcohol to watch our team play that having no football would mean that all that money would not be going into the economy.  I feel like the NFL owners don't really understand the fact that they will lose more money by continuing the lockout then they would lose if they gave the players what they want out the bargaining agreement.  The players are in need of not playing 18 games, I personally believe that is too much especially in a sport where we saw record number of concussions last season.  Two more games could potentially create the chance of a massive injury to the players.

My other big concern with the NFL Lockout is actually quite selfish, if there is a lockout then my team the 49ers will have less time to develop a new QB who can play the way that Jim Harbaugh wants.  We need all the time we can get to improve our team and to teach the offense and defense just what they need to be doing so we can start being a playoff team again.  I have full faith in my boys but the fact that there is the potential of a lockout is making me nervous and not just on an economical standpoint in terms of the profit and loss that the owners and all of the businesses that make money off of the NFL but also because I want the 49ers to have a good season next year.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
