NFL Lockout: The Saga Continues

Two days ago Judge Nelson sided with the NFL Players Association to lift the 45 day old Lock-out and to get the off season going, immediately following this ruling the NFL owners appealed the decision and requested a stay on Judge Nelson's ruling until the NFL owners could put in a proper appeal to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.  Judge Nelson denied the NFL their stay thus for now ending the lock-out and making it now finally the off-season.  She stated that the NFL themselves were going about business as if they were going to be playing the 2011 season and thus stated why should there be a lockout forcing the players from practicing or even entering free-agency talks.  I personally agree with Judge Nelson on all of her rulings.  The NFL has been acting like the big kids on the play ground who finally met their match and everyone has just realized that they are a bunch of big babies who have been picking on kids smaller on them to seem tough.

Most owners are saying that for right now until they figure out a new collective bargaining agreement that the players and owners should follow the 2010 rules as everyone has already agreed to them.  I think that this is a smart idea for right now until either the mediation talks work or fall apart again.  But the owners should understand that they are potentially ruining football for the fans this season and those are the people who are making them their money.  Yet it seems like the NFL really does want for their to be football this season because they are holding the draft starting on Thursday and then they have released the schedule for this coming season.

If the NFL owners and Commissioner really wanted Judge Nelson to truly take a look at their case then during the trial they shouldn't have released the schedule already or said that there will 16 games and the entire post-season.  They legitimately weakened their argument against the NFLPA and made themselves seem hypocritical when it came to their stance on the lockout.  Why release the schedule if you aren't going to be allowing your players to practice and stay in shape.  By not allowing teams to sign free agents, you are making it harder for teams to become viable contenders next season if they are not one of the top 5 teams in the league.  Yes I know right now I'm talking about the 49ers but they are my team so I will keep referring back to them.  They need the lockout to be over so that Harbaugh can get down to business and start building a playoff caliber team that will soon be a threat to be reckoned with at least I'm hoping that is what happens.  All in all I'm glad the lockout is over for now but anything can happen so I'm not holding my breath for this saga to be over anytime soon.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and keep following my love affair with sports.
